REPORTS TO:
Quality Control Manager
SUMMARY
This role combines the core responsibilities of a Lab Technician with supervisory and leadership duties aligned with the goals of the Quality Department. The Lab Technician / Assistant Quality Supervisor will serve as a key player in quality assurance, operator training, and process standardization, while supporting the daily leadership of the Operations team. This individual will be cross trained to lead during absences, collaborate with supervisors, and is expected to develop into a future leadership position.
OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE
- Execute ASTM, AWWA, proprietary and other test methods to ensure consistent product quality
- Actively support and eventually co-lead the training and supervision of operators and staff
- Assist in enforcing SOP compliance, data accuracy, and safety adherence
- Become proficient in lab analysis and plant process control
- Support continuous improvement efforts, quality trials, and root cause investigations
- Develop the ability to represent the Quality Department in leadership meetings
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE
Laboratory Duties
- Perform all lab analyses with high accuracy and adherence to QA/QC requirements
- Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment, ensuring operational readiness
- Record data, interpret results, and escalate deviations appropriately
- Assist in the formulation, improvement, and documentation of SOPs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace
- Interface with R&D and Operations to support product development and trials
Training & Supervisory Support
- Mentor and guide fellow lab technicians, particularly new hires
- Lead by example in lab conduct, documentation, and safety habits
- Participate in the training of production operators on quality expectations
- Monitor adherence to quality protocols across shifts and report non-conformances
- Partner with Production Supervisors and Operators to bridge gaps in understanding product specs and corrective actions
Leadership Development
- Assist in coordinating quality improvement efforts and cross-functional audits
- Contribute to daily shift meetings when needed
- Demonstrate leadership in handling quality complaints, data audits, and process deviations
- Participate in KPI monitoring and communicate performance trends to the Quality Manager
- Develop a strong understanding of the full production process, enabling leadership coverage when needed
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 2+ years in a lab or manufacturing quality role (industrial or analytical setting)
- Highly organized and proactive, with excellent follow-through
- Proven communication skills with technical and operations personnel
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in hot/cold environments
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; able to create charts, formulas, and reports
- Comfortable working any shift as needed in a 24/7 operation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with ASTM methods, ISO procedures, or similar QA standards
- Experience training or mentoring others in a production or lab setting
- Demonstrated interest in leadership and process ownership
- Ability to analyze trends and support root cause investigations

- 12-hour shift, 3-on 3-off w/ rotation every 4-weeks from days to nights
COMPENSATION
Full Time "non-exempt" status
Overtime is paid where applicable
Hourly Pay: $28.70
Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided per CA SB 1162 ("CA Pay Transparency Law"). Base pay information is based on market location.
